Both the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) and Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) are essential pieces of health and safety legislation designed to ensure the safe use of equipment in the workplace.

Whether you're involved in planning, supervising, or performing tasks that rely on work equipment or lifting operations, understanding these regulations is vital for maintaining safety, preventing accidents, and staying legally compliant.

Throughout this course, we will explore the key principles, requirements, and best practices associated with LOLER and PUWER.

After successful completion participants will have foundational understanding of LOLER 1998 and PUWER 1998, enabling them to recognise their importance in maintaining a safe and compliant workplace.


Course Aims:

Basic Awareness of LOLER and PUWER: An introduction to the key principles and purposes of LOLER and PUWER and where they fit into the regulatory hierarchy.

Understanding Legal Responsibilities: A clear overview of the roles and responsibilities of employers and employees under these regulations.

Recognising Hazards and Risks: An awareness of the common risks associated with lifting operations and work equipment, and the importance of proper control measures.

Introduction to Equipment Checks: Basic knowledge of the need for regular inspections, maintenance, and record-keeping for lifting and work equipment.

There are no prerequisites to complete this course.


What You Need to Bring

Each participant is required to produce photographic ID on the first day of the course. Failure to do so will result in the participant being unable to attend.

The content of this course and the standard of instruction has been approved by the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA).A certificate will be issued by LEEA on successful completion of the course.


Does this Course Prove Competency

There is no set certification or approval body that can deem you competent. HSE provides guidance on what is meant by competency, stating that:

Competence can be described as the combination of training, skills, experience and knowledge that a person has and their ability to apply them to perform a task safely.

They stipulate that a competent person must undertake the necessary training to help acquire and maintain satisfactory competency levels.

This course alone will not deem your employee competent but can be used in conjunction with experience, skills and knowledge to demonstrate overall theoretical and practical competence which can assist you as an Employer to address legal requirements, by contributing to your own assessment of your employee's potential competency.
