Examination & Testing of Pressure Systems Contained in Wind Turbines
This course equips delegates with the knowledge and practical skills needed to inspect, test, and maintain pressure systems used in wind turbines. Focusing on safety, compliance, and operational integrity, the training covers key components, regulatory requirements (such as PSSR), and hands-on inspection techniques. Ideal for those responsible for the ongoing safety and reliability of hydraulic and pneumatic systems in the wind energy sector.
Description
This two day course provides a comprehensive understanding of the examination, inspection, and testing of pressure systems found within wind turbines, with a focus on compliance with relevant safety legislation and industry standards.
It covers the principles of pressure systems operation, typical components found in wind energy systems (such as hydraulic accumulators, compressors, and pressure vessels), and the procedures required for thorough examination and certification.
Delegates will gain hands-on experience with inspection techniques, risk assessments, written schemes of examination (WSE), and interpreting inspection reports.
Emphasis is placed on ensuring the continued integrity, reliability, and safety of pressure systems used in the operation and maintenance of wind turbines.
Primary Training Objectives
Regulatory Compliance - Apply the requirements of the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) and other relevant standards (e.g., BS EN, HSE guidance).
Inspectors Responsibilities - Understand the duties of personnel involved in the thorough examination.
Duty Holder Responsibilities - Understand the role and responsibilities of the duty holders
System Understanding - Understand the design, function, and risks associated with pressure systems within wind turbines.
Inspection Tooling - Understand the different types of tooling required to conduct examinations and their proper use
Inspection and Testing Methods - Different inspection and testing techniques to form the Thorough Examination
Component Identification - Identify key components and failure points in wind turbine pressure systems.
Reporting - Compile Reports of examination in accordance with regulations
Data Interpretation - Interpret written schemes of examination, testing data and inspection reports to make informed safety decisions.
Risk Assessment - Associated risks and assessments
Safety Leadership - Promote a proactive safety culture in relation to pressure system management in wind energy environments.
Fault Finding & Maintenance - Basic maintenance and fault finding
Achievement Measurement
Each course participant must complete and pass a theory examination to demonstrate a good understanding of the course content.

Does this Course Prove Competency
There is no set certification or approval body that can deem you competent. HSE provides guidance on what is meant by competency, stating that:
Competence can be described as the combination of training, skills, experience and knowledge that a person has and their ability to apply them to perform a task safely.
They stipulate that a competent person must undertake the necessary training to help acquire and maintain satisfactory competency levels.
This course alone will not deem your employee competent but can be used in conjunction with experience, skills and knowledge to demonstrate overall theoretical and practical competence which can assist you as an Employer to address legal requirements, by contributing to your own assessment of your employee's potential competency.
