This two-day LEEA-accredited course provides the knowledge and practical skills to carry out steel wire rope resin socketing to industry standards. Blending theory with hands-on training and insight from our in-house wire rope technicians, it covers preparation, application, curing, and inspection to ensure safe, compliant terminations.

This comprehensive two day LEEA accredited hands-on course is designed for individuals involved in the preparation and termination of wire ropes using socketing techniques.

Delivered by highly experienced LEEA-accredited trainers, the course provides in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical experience to ensure delegates are fully compliant with current industry standards and best practices.

This course is ideal for riggers, lifting engineers, and technical personnel involved in the assembly, installation, or inspection of wire rope terminations. A blend of classroom instruction and practical workshop sessions ensures delegates leave with both the theoretical understanding and practical experience required in the field.


Primary Training Objectives

Applications - Understand the key principles and applications of wire rope socketing in lifting and structural operations.

Regulatory Compliance - Be able to demonstrate knowledge of applicable regulations.

Tools - Apply the correct procedures for socketing using appropriate materials and tools, with an emphasis on safety and precision.

Terminology - Understand the definitions of terminology relating to wire rope socketing.

Wire Rope Types - Recognise a variety of wire rope constructions.

Terminations - Identify and differentiate between various types of sockets and socketing methods.

Preparation - Follow best practices in rope preparation, including correct cutting, cleaning, and alignment techniques.

Safety - Demonstrate awareness of health and safety legislation, risk assessments, and safe systems of work related to socketing activities.

Test and Inspection - Inspect, test, and verify the quality and integrity of socketed wire rope terminations in line with relevant standards (e.g., BS EN 13411).

Documentation - Recognise the importance of quality assurance, documentation, and traceability throughout the socketing process.


Achievement Measurement

Each course participant must complete and pass a theory examination and practical assessment.

What You Need to Bring

Each participant is required to produce photographic ID on the first day of the course. Failure to do so will result in the participant being unable to attend.

LEEA Certified Course

The content of this course and the standard of instruction has been approved by the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA). A certificate will be issued by LEEA on successful completion of the course.


Does this Course Prove Competency

There is no set certification or approval body that can deem you competent. HSE provides guidance on what is meant by competency, stating that:

Competence can be described as the combination of training, skills, experience and knowledge that a person has and their ability to apply them to perform a task safely.

They stipulate that a competent person must undertake the necessary training to help acquire and maintain satisfactory competency levels.

This course alone will not deem your employee competent but can be used in conjunction with experience, skills and knowledge to demonstrate overall theoretical and practical competence which can assist you as an Employer to address legal requirements, by contributing to your own assessment of your employee's potential competency.
